Terms and Conditions

This is a bit dry - but it's important stuff, so please do read this page. Please contact us if you need us to explain anything.

These terms and conditions are the basis upon which training is offered by Champion Driving Tuition.

Training is provided subject to the acceptance of these terms and conditions.

1. Driving licenses and fitness to drive:

You must hold a current, valid, provisional, full or international driving license and produce it on, or before, your first training session. You must be legally and medically fit to drive. You must be able to read a vehicle number plate, in good daylight, from a distance of 20.5metres (67feet). If you need to wear glasses to do this, you must wear them at all times when driving.

2. Payments and Cancellation:

Tuition fees are payable at the start of any lesson. We accept cash or cheque (cheques made payable to Joe Champion). We will apply an admin charge of £15 for any cheques presented that are refused by the bank ('bounced' cheques).

Your instructor will do everything possible to ensure that your lessons start and finish on time, but reserves the right to cancel, postpone or change lesson lengths and start/finish times under certain circumstances (e.g., dangerous weather conditions). In the event of your lesson being postponed, any fees paid in advance will be carried forward and credited to the next lesson.

The instructor reserves the right to cancel a lesson at short notice if it is suspected that the pupil may be unfit due to the effects of alcohol, drugs (prescribed or otherwise) or any other condition that would cause his/her driving to be dangerous or illegal. In such circumstances the lesson fee will be payable.

Cancelling a pre-arranged lesson carries no charge if the minimum of 24 hours notice is given. However, if the instructor arrives at the agreed time and place and the pupil is not available to take the lesson, then this will be charged at the normal lesson rate.

Block bookings must be paid for in advance to benefit from any discount.

Student discounts will only be given when a valid Student Card is seen as proof.

3. Bookings and Lesson duration:

Your instructor will try to keep regular lesson slots at the same time each week to ensure continuity of learning, but this cannot be guaranteed.

The minimum lesson period is one hour. If, for any reason, the instructor is late for the lesson he/she will make every effort to let the pupil know the estimated time of arrival. If the delay is greater than 15 minutes, this time will be credited to the pupil and, if possible, the lesson will be extended by the time due – if this is not possible the extra time will be carried forward to the next suitable lesson.

4. Training Location:

All sessions will start and finish at the same place unless alternative arrangements are agreed in advance.

The instructor will determine a location for practical lessons which ensures both pupil and public safety. This means that the instructor might need to drive the pupil to and from the lesson place; this journey time forms part of the paid-for lesson.

5. Training vehicles:

Training vehicles provided by the school are taxed, insured for the purposes of driving tuition, fully roadworthy and fitted with dual controls.

6. Driving tests and bookings:

Your instructor reserves the right to refuse use of a driving school vehicle for test if he/she considers that provision of such could cause a risk to public safety.

Where a school car is used for test, the booking period will be based upon the instructor’s normal diary schedule. A minimum fee of £50 will be payable for the use of the school car for the duration of the driving test. This includes the one hour lesson before the start of the driving test.

Longer pre-test lessons or extended tests will incur a higher fee.

While your instructor will make every effort to ensure that the vehicle supplied for test will be fully roadworthy and comply with all legal requirements at the start of the test, he/she cannot be held responsible for vehicle failure that occurs during the test and is not liable for consequential loss.

Your instructor cannot be held responsible for test appointments cancelled by the DSA due to bad weather, sickness, staff shortages or other reasons. Such cancellations are beyond the control of your instructor and so the lesson fee and ‘use of car’ fee for the booked period will be charged. Your instructor will advise you about claiming compensation from the DSA.

7. Code of conduct:

Your instructor agrees to abide by the conditions of the Professional Code of Conduct (a copy of which will be provided on request). In the unlikely event of complaint or dispute the guidelines of the Code of Conduct will be adhered to.

8. Learner Comfort and Safety:

In the interests of comfort and safety, learners are advised to wear suitable footwear and clothing which does not restrict movement.

9. Student Discount:

Students must produce a valid NUS Card before a Student Discount is given.

10. Your rights:

These conditions do not affect any protection a pupil has under consumer legislation.

We reserve the right to change any of the terms and conditions without notice, but will always try to tell pupils of any changes as soon as possible.

11. Vouchers and Coupons

Only genuine Champion Driving Tuition vouchers, or coupons, will be accepted as full or part-payment. Vouchers or coupons will not be accepted if they have been altered, copied, defaced or tampered with in any way.
